This week I want to go over the last documents in my fathers possession. We are going to look at the Naval records from my
Grandfather's file. A document titled Medical History provided the
following information:
Page
1
Name
of Patient LeRoy, Edward Legar
Place
U.S.S. Fulton, SUBMARINE BASE, NEW LONDON, CONN
May
17, 1917
Influenza.
Duty: epidemic. Fever, catarrhal inflammation of upper respiratory
tract.
Rest,
purge, diet, symptomatic treatment.
May
23, 1917
To
duty: good recovery
Signed
R.W.McDowell
There
is a stamp, that is very difficult to read, on the original document;
and almost imperceptible on the digital copy, that appears to be a
life insurance policy with the only legible name being Lillian and it
looks to be in the amount of 3,000 dollars. I also have an example of his Signature now. This will be helpful later.
With
this information, I now know to look for an Edward with a Lillian in
the 1920 Census.
The
document titled Abstract of Health verified the information on the
Medical History document and provided the various ships and ports
Edward was in during his enlistment.
I
entered the usable data from this document in Legacy.
